A Greek Summer (Nikostratos) by Emir Kusturica
21 June 2010

The story of the film is based on the book by Eric Buaset "Nikostratos" which tells of a boy from Greece who befriends a pelekan, about the boys relationship with his father who is a fisherman (Emir Kusturica) and about the heat of his first love . Very recently, filming Kusturica on the island of Milos finished and the team moved to the island of Sifnos, where a specifical village was created for the training of the pelikans and all over the island are spread posters of one pelikan who speaks with the residents of the island.

About the story: The friendship in life and death of a young Greek fisherman and his pelican … Yannis lives in poverty with his father, a demanding and irascible man since the death of his wife. One day, in exchange for a golden cross, he saves from death a strange bird and brings it back to his room, hiding from his father. Yannis gives him a magical name: Nicostratos. A tender friendship develops between Yannis and the pelican. But Nicostratos grows quickly and becomes difficult to hide. What will be the reaction of his father upon learning the existence of the bird and the gift of the golden cross ?
