On the hill north of Platis Yialos, you can see the Monastery of the Virgin Mary on the mountain (1813), a spot with panoramic views of the bay and the surrounding area. Northeast of the village is the White Castle, the most important of the fifty-seven castles on the island. South, on the cape of Platis Yialos the archeologist Chr. Tsountas excavated a prehistoric burial ground.
